Cloud computing's new-found prominence has been buoyed by the technology's ability to handle and support any number of enterprise tasks and processes. According to a recent CloudTweaks report, among the most significant is the ability of hosted offerings to act as online backup services.
"A business owner need not worry about backup responsibilities because the supplier has taken steps to put up a great system for backup," the report stated. "Disk failure or server crash won’t create much problem because the supplier can easily restore the latest backup."
That's because all of the information that must be recovered will not be affected by hardware issues. When companies send data to the cloud, all they have to do is access it through a vendor's portal where it will be readily available.
Data security is also taken into account in virtual environments, as the vendor must ensure that each individual company's information is kept separate to avoid accidental leaks.
"Data is shared within a server, therefore the provider must ensure that each account is secured, that only authorized users in one account can access it," according to CloudTweaks.
Overall, the news provider added, these services and capabilities are now more readily available to small and medium-sized businesses than ever. Without having to deploy costly on-premise hardware and software, this segment of the enterprise market can also enjoy robust technology.
Furthermore, a recent IDG News Service report noted that many cloud vendors are looking to attract a larger user base. In order to do so, the source noted, many of these service providers are lowering prices to target smaller companies and startup organizations.
